Another kind of clutch-box. The disk-wheel to the right has two holes, corresponding to the studs fixed in the other disk; and, being pressed against it, the studs enter the holes, when the two disks rotate together.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
Brown's figure 52: the driving shaft (pulley) carries a disk with two studs; the disk-wheel on the driven shaft slides on a feather and has two holes; a hand lever presses it against the studs at 2 s and draws it back at 5.5 s
Measured
driven/driver 0.0000 out of gear, 1.0000 pressed in (the studs drop into the holes on the second pass), 0.0000 drawn back; max penetration 0.08 mm; also passes at 12, 30 and 40 rpm
Notes
The face the studs touch is capsule rods (flanking rods stacked three deep beside each hole, a radial grate between): stud capsules on mesh-hull edges got wrong-way normals and were sucked into the face. Holes cast with slop so a stud has time to drop in. batch7/gen052.py. Negative control: studs out of contact → driven shaft stands (0.0000).
