For transmitting three different speeds by gearing
For transmitting three different speeds by gearing. The lower part of the band is shown on a loose pulley. The next pulley is fixed on the main shaft, on the other end of which is fixed a small spur-gear. The next pulley is fixed on a hollow shaft running on the main shaft, and there is secured to it a second spur-gear, larger than the first. The fourth and last pulley to the left is fixed on another hollow shaft running loosely on the last-named, on the other end of which is fixed the still larger spur-gear nearest to the pulley. As the band is made to traverse from one pulley to another, it transmits three different velocities to the shaft below.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
Brown's figure 58: a wide drum (the driven shaft) above four equal pulleys on one shaft line: loose; fast on the main shaft (small gear, 12); on a hollow shaft (18); on a second hollow shaft (24); always in mesh with 36, 30 and 24 on the shaft below (one centre distance). The band's position is a passive variant
Measured
pass (band on the main shaft's pulley): below/main −0.3333 (−12/36), below/drum −0.3253 (creep 2.4%), the idle hollow shafts driven back exactly (−1.6667, −0.9995); max penetration 0.37 mm; also passes at 45 rpm. Variants (test_058): −0.3257 / −0.5866 / −0.9617 (−1/3, −3/5, −1), loose pulley 0.0000
Notes
No. 7's layout (assemblies, wheels, spurs, a flat steel band of links). PGS. test_058 compiles each variant itself (run_variant's cache is keyed by variant id only, and 7 and 28 use 'loose' and 'middle'). batch7/gen058.py. Negative control: the shaft below lowered 3 out of mesh → it stands (0.000).
