Circular motion into ditto. The connecting-rods are so arranged that when one pair of connected links is over the dead point, or at the extremity of its stroke, the other is at right angles; continuous motion is thus insured without a fly-wheel.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
Two parallel shafts 20 apart, one over the other (gravity on). Each has a crank (throw 3) at the front and a disc-crank (the same throw) at the back, a quarter-turn on from the crank. One connecting-rod joins the two cranks and another the two disc-cranks; each rod turns on the upper pin and is pinned to the lower one. Only the upper shaft is driven (30 rpm).
Measured
The lower shaft follows turn for turn (ratio 1.0000) and steadily all round: in 24 slices of the turn its speed ratio stays at 1.000, through both rods' dead points. No penetration (no contact carries the motion; the rods are pinned).
Notes
The plate gives no sizes. With one rod unpinned the lower shaft still follows at this speed (ratio 1.000 with only rod A, 1.003 with only rod B): its momentum carries it past the dead points, so the model does not show the stall that the second rod guards against; with both rods it needs no momentum.
