A modification of 195 by means of two worms and worm-wheels
A modification of 195 by means of two worms and worm-wheels.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
One shaft carries two worms, each the single thread of No. 31 (3 turns, pitch radius 1.6, axial pitch 1.571). The left worm is right-handed and the right worm is its mirror image, left-handed. Over each stands an equal worm-wheel of 30 teeth (module 0.5) on a fixed stud. The shaft, the only driven joint (60 rpm), turns both worms. Because the threads are of opposite hand, the wheels turn in opposite senses, and their facing sides move the same way, like the feed-rolls of No. 195 set side by side.
Measured
Over 1-7 s the left wheel turns 0.0331 times the shaft and the right wheel -0.0332 (+-1/30), with slip 0.54% and 0.25%. The right wheel follows the left at -1.0009 (r2 0.9999). Max penetration 0.01 mm.
Notes
The second wheel's tooth phase is set to meet the mirrored thread without a jump. The feed-rolls themselves are left out, as in the plate.
