Another kind of mangle-wheel with its pinion

Another kind of mangle-wheel with its pinion. With this as well as with that in the preceding figure, although the pinion continues to revolve in one direction, the mangle-wheel will make almost an entire revolution in one direction and the same in an opposite direction; but the revolution of the wheel in one direction will be slower than that in the other, owing to the greater radius of the outer circle of teeth.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
A mangle-wheel with two concentric circles of pins, 36 on radius 10 and 50 on radius 14, over 252 degrees, joined at each end of the gap by a half-round of pins. A 10-tooth pinion (pitch radius 2, driven 30 rpm one way) in a carriage sliding in the upright slot, its follower in the groove between the circles, gears inside the inner circle and drives the wheel forward fast, rounds the end, and gears outside the outer circle to drive it back slower. gen193.py.
Measured
Inside: speed ratio 0.2002 (kinematic rp/RI = 0.2); outside: -0.1431 (kinematic -rp/RO = -0.1429); the carriage shifts 8.0 cm between the circles; penetration 0.18 mm. Pinion drive gain kv 1.5 (was 4) so the unloaded pinion is stable in the control.
Notes
Brown gives no dimensions; radii 10 and 14 are chosen so the two speeds differ by 7:5.
