Modification of the triangular eccentric 91, used on the steam engine in the Paris Mint. The circular disk behind carries the triangular tappet, which communicates an alternate rectilinear motion to the valve-rod. The valve is at rest at the completion of each stroke for an instant, and is pushed quickly across the steam-ports to the end of the next.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
A curved triangle of 12 cm side (three arcs, each struck from the opposite corner) is turned on its centre by the one driven joint, 15 turns a minute, on a disk behind. It works by real contact between the two faces of a rectangular yoke 12 cm apart (0.1 mm clearance) on a valve-rod sliding in fixed guides. gen135.py.
Measured
The yoke follows the support function of the triangle: 1.86 cm of stroke, three strokes a turn, at +/-0.0300 m per radian mid-stroke (expect 0.0303, r2 0.997) in four windows; travel -1.868..-0.010 cm. Penetration 0.005 mm.
Notes
The yoke rests for an instant at the end of each stroke and is carried quickly across the middle of the next, as the plate describes.
