Uniform circular motion into rectilinear by means of a rope or…
Uniform circular motion into rectilinear by means of a rope or band, which is wound once or more times around the drum.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
A four-spoked drum of 10 cm radius is turned by hand (the one driven joint, swung 1.0 rad each way). A rope tied to the drum 70 degrees past its top is wound round it (about 250 degrees) and leaves at the bottom along a rail to a carriage that slides there. A light return spring (the plate has none) draws the carriage out, so that the rope stays taut as it pays out. gen134.py.
Measured
The carriage runs -0.1019 m per radian of drum (nominal radius plus the rope 0.104; r2 0.9999), travel -9.99..+10.70 cm. Penetration 0.23 mm, 0.03 mm after the first second.
Notes
The rope is a real chain of links lying on the drum rim; the drum turning clockwise winds it in and the carriage goes toward the drum, turning back it pays out.
