Rotary motion of the toothed wheels produces rectilinear motion of the double rack and gives equal force and velocity to each side, both wheels being of equal size.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
Two equal 16-tooth wheels (module 0.8) mesh one above the other; the upper gears with the rack on the top bar of an oval frame, the lower with the rack on its bottom bar. The upper wheel is swung by the hand 1.6 rad each way; the lower is driven only by its teeth.
Measured
Frame slope 0.0646 m/rad vs 0.064 (r2 1.0000); lower wheel -1.0035 vs -1 (r2 1.0000); stroke +-10.3 cm; penetration 0.08 mm.
Notes
Three tooth meshes close a loop through the frame; the 0.12-pitch backlash lets it run without binding.
