Uniform reciprocating rectilinear motion, produced by rotary…
106 and 107. Uniform reciprocating rectilinear motion, produced by rotary motion of grooved cams.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
A drum 9.2 cm across turns on its axle (10 rpm, the only driven joint). An endless groove 1.14 cm wide along the axle (0.03 cm clear of the pin, square to its slanting walls) runs round it, wandering 5 cm along the drum, one stroke each way a turn at a steady 1.59 cm to the radian (the turns rounded); its two walls are 72 convex pieces each. A rod hung from the beam slides parallel to the axle and carries a 1 cm pin that works in the groove by real contact, so the groove drives it both ways.
Measured
Rod slope +0.0159/-0.0159/+0.0159/-0.0158 m/rad vs +/-0.01592 (r2 1.0000); stroke 4.6 cm; penetration 0.01 mm.
Notes
Neg control: pin out of contact -> the rod stands.
