Screw stamping-press. Rectilinear motion from circular motion.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
A screw hangs in the nut of the top beam and turns on its own axis (16 rpm, the only driven joint), by a lever with two balls. Its right-hand thread, pitch 1.6 cm, fills the beam's nut thread (3 turns, 0.04 cm clear each flank) by real flank contact. The screw turns in the ram's crosshead (a hinge); the crosshead with the die can only slide down the columns, so each turn brings the die down one pitch, 1.6 cm. The ram's weight keeps one flank loaded.
Measured
Ram slope +0.0025 m/rad in both windows vs +0.002546 (r2 1.0000); stroke 3.9 cm; penetration 0.07 mm.
Notes
Neg control: nut thread out of contact -> the ram drops onto its stop.
