In this, rotary motion is imparted to the wheel by the rotation of the screw, or rectilinear motion of the slide by the rotation of the wheel. Used in screw-cutting and slide-lathes.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
A fixed screw lies along x in two bearings; a nut-wheel with an internal thread of pitch 1.6 cm is carried by the slide and turns in it (16 rpm, the only driven joint). The wheel's thread fills the screw groove by real flank contact, so each turn of the wheel runs the slide one pitch, 1.6 cm. A weak spring (5 N/m, standing for the cut) keeps one flank loaded.
Measured
Slide slope +0.0025 m/rad in both windows vs +0.002546 (r2 1.0000); travel 3.9 cm; penetration 0.04 mm.
Notes
Neg control: screw thread out of contact -> slide rests on its stop.
