Common paddle-wheel

Common paddle-wheel for propelling vessels; the revolution of the wheel causes the buckets to press backward against the water and so produce the forward movement of the vessel.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
Seen from the side, gravity on. A vessel floats in a long basin on a level slide with hull drag; the paddle-wheel (8 floats) is hinged on the vessel and driven at 24 rpm, the only input. The basin water is particle water; the floats dip into it and press backward against it.
Measured
The floats drive the water backward and the reaction carries the vessel forward at about 13 cm/s, about 1 m in 10 s. The water is drawn from the particles. The motion gate passes.
Notes
Grade B. The basin runs past both frame edges (WARN: basin partly out of frame), on purpose, so the vessel has room to travel.
