Diaphragm forcing pump. A flexible diaphragm is employed instead of bellows, and valves are arranged same as in preceding.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
Seen from in front, cut in section, as Brown. The handle turns on a standard rising from the chamber's flange and is swung by hand at its grip (the only drive, ±0.14 rad, 0.27 Hz). Its arm arches over to a rod hinged on the plate in the diaphragm's middle. The diaphragm is leather clamped under the flange. In section each side is a leaf hung from the rim and a leaf from the plate's edge, hinged at the crease, so the sheet hangs as a bowl that follows the plate (from the sim). A poppet closes the suction hole in the floor. A clack hinged at its left edge lies on the delivery seat in the bulb up the riser, as in the figure. Both valves move only by their weight and the pressures on their faces. Water is lumped vessels: the chamber under the diaphragm is swept by the plate with the diaphragm's effective area (35.3 cm², the plate plus half the leather), and its water top is drawn at the plate. The duct and riser up to the clack, the bulb and delivery pipe over it, and the suction pipe from a well are full. The delivery pipe delivers 60 cm up, beyond the frame, with inertia. gen: opencode-runs/water/gen454.py
Measured
Trace over 8–12 s: the plate strokes ±1.5 cm. On the up-stroke the chamber falls to about −1.5 kPa, the poppet lifts up to 3.4 mm, and suction runs up to 92 g/s while the clack stays shut. On the down-stroke the chamber rises to about +5 to +9.5 kPa, the poppet seats, the clack swings fully open (0.9 rad), and delivery runs up to 108 g/s. A single-acting pump, so delivery stops through each up-stroke. Water-hammer ringing (about 10 Hz) shows in the chamber pressure while the clack opens. Gate: pytest 2 passed, lint 0 FAIL, motion gate pass, no WARN.
Notes
Grade B. Not in Brown: the delivery height beyond the frame, the well, and the drive speed. The leather is two rigid leaves a side, not a continuous sheet. Its effective area is a lumped estimate. The suction stream is not drawn (the pipe is drawn full; the ringing kept its flow flickering about zero, which failed the stream-toggle gate). The poppet lift is small (check minimum lowered to 1 mm). The chamber is a little wider on the right than Brown's.
