183 and 184. represent a modification of 181 and 182, the diagonal catches being superseded by two quadrants.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
Two handles on shafts 12 apart, each with a back-weight (a joint spring set past its rest stop) and carrying a quadrant concentric with its own shaft and a finger whose round nose bears radially on the other handles quadrant, so a held handle cannot turn the other. A plug-rod worked by a crank (the only driven joint, 20 rpm) carries tappet A under the lower handles arm and tappet B over the uppers. Near the top A throws the lower handle up 15.5 deg: its quadrant slides from under the upper finger, the upper handle swings up to rest and its quadrant swings in, so the lower handle drops onto it and is held up. Near the bottom B throws the upper handle down and the lower handle falls and locks it. Starts in the state of No. 181.
Measured
Over 3 crank turns the handles alternate between the two states: after each top throw the lower handle is held at +0.146 rad (design -0.004) and the upper rests at +0.150; after each bottom throw the upper is held at +0.003 and the lower rests at 0.000. Max penetration 0.20 mm.
Notes
The valves are not drawn; joint springs stand in for the back-weights. The quadrants replace the diagonal catches of 181/182, as Brown describes.
