A cam acting between two friction-rollers in a yoke

A cam acting between two friction-rollers in a yoke. Has been used to give the movement to the valve of a steam engine.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
A cam on a shaft turns between two free rollers in a yoke; the cam edge is the rollers pitch curve (odd harmonics) drawn in by the roller radius, so both rollers always touch. The cam is the only driver; the yoke is carried by contact alone.
Measured
Yoke lift follows the ideal -1.6 sin t - 0.25 sin 3t: slopes -0.0205, +0.0205, -0.0205 m/rad against -0.02066 ideal (windows each 70 deg); stroke 1.40 cm; penetration 0.11 mm.
Notes
Rollers turn freely (friction 0.1; 0.5 wedges). 0.03 cm play per roller.
