Intermittent alternating rectilinear motion is given to the rod,…

Intermittent alternating rectilinear motion is given to the rod, A, by the continuous rotation of the shaft carrying the two cams or wipers, which act upon the projection, B, of the rod, and thereby lift it. The rod drops by its own weight. Used for ore-stampers or pulverizers, and for hammers.

Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.

Modelled as
The shaft turns clockwise at 30 rpm and is the only driven joint. It carries two wipers half a turn apart, whose lifting faces are involutes of a 3.0 cm base circle (radial flanks at the root). The stamp-rod A (1.5 kg) slides in its guides; its projection B (the tappet) has a flat underside that the wipers meet where the vertical tangent to the base circle crosses it, so A rises 3.0 cm a radian, 3.45 cm in all over 66 deg of wiper. Past the tip, A falls by its own weight onto the die, twice a turn.
Measured
While a wiper lifts: slope 0.0300 m/rad vs base radius 0.0300 (0.0%), r2 1.0000, over 2.25 to 2.55 s. A runs from -0.06 (on the die) to 3.72 cm. Max penetration 0.62 mm.
Notes
The drop is real free fall under gravity. The shoe lands on the die (contact), so there is no joint stop.
