Force pump, same as above, with addition of air-chamber to the outlet, to produce a constant flow. The outlet from air-chamber is shown at two places, from either of which water may be taken. The air is compressed by the water during the downward stroke of the piston, and expands and presses out the water from the chamber during the up-stroke.
Only the input is driven; every other part of this model moves by physics (MuJoCo), and its ratios are measured. Run it live, change its parameters, or switch the friction off to see the output stop.
Modelled as
Seen from in front, cut away in half section, as Brown. The handle turns on a fixed standard from the barrel's rim, and the hand swings it (the only drive, ±0.3 rad, 0.5 Hz). A rod hinged on the solid piston is pinned to the handle, so the piston slides straight (stroke 3.4 cm, bore 6 cm). A poppet closes the suction hole in the barrel's floor. A passage from the barrel's foot rises to an outlet flap under a pear-shaped air chamber. Two outlets leave the chamber as in the figure: a dip pipe from a mouth inside up through the crown, and a leg from the chamber's foot rising on the left. Water is lumped vessels: the barrel is a primed chamber the piston sweeps; the air chamber is a closed chamber of water under about 920 cm³ of air. Each outlet is a pipe with inertia (length) that delivers 60 cm up, beyond the frame ("to any distance or elevation"), through a 0.06 cm² nozzle. Both valves are moved only by their weight and the pressures on their faces. gen: opencode-runs/water/gen451.py
Measured
Trace over 6–12 s: the outlet flap passes 0–149 g/s, only on the down-stroke. Each outlet runs 17–27 g/s on both strokes (mean 22 + 22 g/s). The air's pressure goes 10.6–15.6 kPa and the chamber's water rises and falls about 0.8 cm a stroke. Suction is 45 g/s mean, matching delivery. Negative control: the same chamber started nearly full of water (almost no air) gives outlets of 0–65 g/s that stop on every up-stroke. Gate: pytest 2 passed, lint 0 FAIL, motion gate pass, no WARN.
Notes
Grade B. Not in Brown: the delivery height and nozzle beyond the frame, which set the working pressure. Brown draws the piston about 4 cm lower; here its foot stays above the outlet seat (12–16 cm), because the barrel's water is one lumped cavity under the piston. The water standing still in the two pipes is not drawn: the pipes show the stream while it runs, and it runs all the time.
